Mary's Margin, run by the Sisters of St. Mary, is a small house of prayer, hospitality, and retreat nestled in the wooded hills overlooking the Fox River Valley. Margin offerings include silent "meditation intensive" retreats with spiritual direction, Transformation Game workshops, an unique outdoor labyrinth winding through woods and meadows, quarterly drum circles, and a program called Inner Peace Corps for students or people in transition for whom a year or two of manual labor interwoven with prayer and labyrinthine contemplation would help to go back into the world with more focus and joy. We also welcome people for private retreats and small day groups for meetings or quiet days. On many Saturday evenings we hold a Vigil Service during which periods of silent meditation are punctuated by readings and danced chants or hymns. When our chaplain is present, the vigil also includes the Eucharist with a dialogue "sermon."
We are the Sisters of St. Mary, a religious order of the Episcopal Church. Historically, in the Diocese of Milwaukee, we have been associated with the DeKoven Center in Racine. Now, besides pursuing individual ministries, we spend much of our time offering prayer, spiritual direction and retreats at Mary's Margin. Margin Notes is the newsletter published quarterly highlighting events at Mary's Margin.
